I worked with a lovely primary student Elle who comes to me each week. She’s been working on a fantastic floral designed pot over the past few weeks using stoneware clay. Elle began by making sketches of plants and flowers and she designed her pot. We then made many coils and Elle quickly learned how to increase the size of the pot and make it wider and thinner again to create the desired shape. Next Elle made thumbnail sketches of the design for the outside of the pot and drew it out on the leather-hard clay in pencil. Elle then made chrysanthemums, lisianthus and eucalyptus in clay to create three dimensional flowers, leaves and stems to add to the outside of the pot. Another week or so on the decoration. I’ll post-up the bisque-fired pot and show the completed glazed piece in a couple of weeks. Wonderful progress by Elle.
